Between January 18-25, 2015, we attended the Global Young Scientists Summit (GYSS) in Singapore. As stated in their website:
“The GYSS is a gathering of young scientists and researchers (PhD students and post-docs) from all over the world, with eminent international science and technology leaders (‘speakers’) in Singapore. It is a multi-disciplinary summit, covering topics ranging from chemistry, physics, medicine, mathematics, computer science and engineering. Speakers invited to the GYSS@one-north are globally recognised scientific leaders, who are recipients of the Nobel Prize, Fields Medal, Millennium Technology Prize, Turing Award and IEEE Medal of Honour.
The theme for GYSS@one-north is “Advancing Science, Creating Technologies for a Better World”. Over a five-day programme, bright young researchers will interact with eminent scientists and peers to discuss key areas of science and research, technology innovation and society, and solutions to global challenges.
The first three days comprise lectures and plenary sessions in the morning, followed by informal small group sessions with speakers in the afternoon. Participants will have the opportunity to visit local universities, research centres and local agencies in the last two days of the Summit. They will attend social and cultural activities to enjoy the sights, sounds and tastes of multi-cultural Singapore.
The Summit aims to:

Excite and inspire bright young researchers to apply their minds to research that addresses serious global challenges and future needs of mankind;

Engage and connect young researchers to like-minded peers as well as eminent scientific leaders through close and personal interaction sessions; and

Enable participants with a compelling research proposition to take the first steps to bring their ideas to fruition.”
